Sammy spotted a tiny lump on the sidewalk and discovered it was a baby hummingbird. The little bird was struggling and too young to fly so he took her home to nurse her back to health. Soon he was trying to figure out a way to encourage the small delicate creature how to fly.
Flit – as he named her – was motivated by food, so Sammy found that by using a syringe he got her to take her first flights!
To encourage Flit even more, and to help her survival skills, he wrapped red paper around the syringe so she would know what to look for in the wild. And when she was physically strong enough, it was time to set her free!
