A broken-hearted dog abandoned at an airport has reportedly died of a broken heart.
The dog spent a month wandering around the terminal at Colombia’s Palonegro airport looking for her human. She was named Nube Viajera — or “Wandering Cloud”.
The 2-year-old dog was said to have been initially hopeful and healthy, while waiting for her owners to return. But she eventually gave up hope and cowered in the corner of the airport, Colombian newspapers reported.
Although passengers and airport workers tried to offer the dog food, she refused to eat.
Eventually, someone called an animal shelter, but by then she was so starved she could no longer stand up. Vets tried to treat her but she had deteriorated too far and passed away.
“The dog showed a detriment in a matter of 48 hours, even though we gave her food and medicine via intravenous injection, she fell into sadness and depression and did not survive,” Alejandro Sotomonte Nino, a vet from the Colombian Animal Protection Foundation, said.
Tube Viajera’s tragic end is all the more sad given she was not one of 80,000 strays in the city, but someone’s pet.
