Community Helps Dog Enjoy Snow In The Summer On Her Last Day Of Life

A community’s rally to help a Bernese Mountain Dog experience her favorite thing one last time before she died has touched hearts around the globe. Reddit user Canadianbuilt posted a request for his dog, Brooke, asking if anyone could help her play in the snow one last time despite it being the middle of summer.

The “fur-dad” wrote, “Our 11.5 year old Berner has a couple days left. She loves snow, but isn’t going to make it to winter. Does anyone know of any rinks or anything that has a good pile of snow behind them so she can go lay on the snow one last time?”

The redditor, who lives in Calgary, Alberta, had just learned that Brooke was terminally ill. Knowing she didn’t have much time, her family wanted her to enjoy one of her favorite pastimes.

Immediately, many of the readers in the local subreddit sent their heartfelt well-wishes and provided some suggestions. As it happened, one of the people that read the request worked at the Bowness Sportsplex ice rink.

They reached out to Canadianbuilt, who later shared a sweet photo of Brooke lying in a large snowpile.

“Follow up from the hunt for snow,” Canadianbuilt wrote. “The amazing guys at Bowness Sportsplex immediately started dumping their snow outside for us.”

Sadly, it would be one of the last things Brooke would enjoy as Canadianbuilt revealed, “She passed away a few hours after getting her last snow fix.”

He added, “After we got back from laying on the snow, my girlfriend carried her out of the truck and onto the lawn on the front yard where it was nice and shady, and she loved to hang out so much.

“She laid there for a few hours while we said our goodbyes, and she gave us kisses, and then she went. I cried like I’ve never cried before […],” he concluded.

“Rest well, Brooke,” her family wrote. “We won’t forget you.”

And no doubt the kind gesture of the community will provide them comfort in their difficult time.
