The death of a child is the most devastating experience a parent can endure. When Joy Ganda Vibar-Alamares lost her 7-year-old son, Trebby, last September she was inconsolable. While she was at her son’s funeral, something happened that she believes was a special message from her son. The moment was recorded on video and has since touched millions of people around the world.
In the video, Joy is grieving while near her son’s white coffin when one of the balloons decorating the altar starts to float towards her. It brushes up against her head and hands and she begins crying more loudly. The balloon begins to float away only to circle back around to her, as if drawn to her orbit.
Joy softly speaks to the balloon as if she’s speaking to her late son. People have commented widely on the moment, saying it is “eerie”, “miraculous”, “heartbreaking”. While some believe the balloon was moving that way simply because it was low on helium, others herald it as a communication from the deceased boy to his mother.
Ultimately, all that is important is how Joy felt, and she says she believes the balloon was her beautiful boy’s way of saying goodbye to her one last time.
