Community Reacts After Thieves Stole All Of This Animal Shelter’s Food

A thief broke into an animal shelter and stole all the pet food, but it’s what happened afterwards that has everyone talking.

The staff at Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire showed up on Monday morning to a very shocking sight. Someone had broken into the shelter and stole the pet food, an estimated 65 bags of food worth $750. The thief was caught on surveillance cameras on March 20, 2016 clearing out their food room leaving only one small bag of cat food behind.

Needless to say the shelter was disheartened at the loss. The stolen supplies were donations that were meant to be delivered to  people who are struggling to feed their pets. The fact that someone stole from an organization that not only helps stray animals but people who rely on them for this basic necessity is beyond heartless!

The animal shelter posted the sad news to Facebook and by the end of the day they had more shocking news to share. But this time good news! By the end of the day their pantry was filled up again.

Animal League of New Hampshire wrote on Facebook: “A day that began with sadness and shock, ended up filling our hearts over-the-top! We were confident we would replace the stolen food, but your support – the support from our community – far exceeded our wildest expectations!”

Hundreds of people of all ages showed up at the shelter with bags of pet food and within a short time they received four times the amount of food than what was stolen!

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of hundreds of people,” said the group. “You knew you could help, and you did!” They added, “Thank you all for rallying with us, and proving that most people are good people.”

It’s truly heartwarming to see how the community rallied behind the shelter to help them in their time of need. I certainly hope the authorities manage to track down the burglars, but I take comfort in the fact that there are so many amazingly generous people in the world.
