It was as unlikely a friendship as you’ll ever see. A rat and cat as best friends. When Peanut the rat met Ranj the orange tabby cat, he was just a baby and immediately fell in love with the cat.
Peanut and Ranj’s owner, Maggie Szpot of Cedarburg, Wisconsin said that Peanut always wanted to be around Ranj and would follow the cat everywhere.
Peanut loved to crawl on Ranj and lick the cat’s face and sometimes Ranj would groom the rat in return.
“She would always want to play with him, snuggle up under his fur and she even ate cat kibble from his bowl along with him,” Szpot told ABC News. “The two were like close siblings.”
The two remained good friends for the next two years, until Peanut passed away. Ranj was lonely without his buddy for a time, until Szpot got him a feline friend.
