Police Warn Parents That Fun-Shaped “Treats” Are Not Halloween Candy

If you see something like these candy-like pills in your child’s Halloween bag this year, the police want to warn you that these are not candy.

Jackson, MS Metro Police Department shared the photo of the bright-colored pills on Facebook and identified the tablets as drugs, with the following warning:

“If your kids get these for Halloween candy, they ARE NOT CANDY!!!
They are the new shapes of “Ecstasy” and can kill kids through overdoses!!!
So, check your kid’s candy and “When in doubt, Throw it out!!!”
Be safe and always keep the shiny side up!!!”

The good news is that there have not been any verified cases of children being given Ecstasy on Halloween (accidentally or otherwise) and cases of Halloween candy tampering are extremely rare.

However, the Jacksonville Police’s post does serve as an important reminder for parents to inspect their children’s candy before giving it to them, be wary of any homemade treats and discard anything unusual in your child’s candy haul.

Have a fun and safe Halloween!
