Men Drop a Rock Down an Abandoned Coal Mine Shaft with Satisfying Result

Boys never grow up! Some men in West Virginia were curious what would happen if they dropped a rock down an abandoned coal mine. The videographer wrote, “My dad, some friends, and I dropped a rock down an abandoned coal mine rescue shaft on March 4, 2023, in West Virginia.

The video got viewers trying to estimate the distance of the drop. “I counted about 6 seconds, which comes to about 590 ft.deep. However some people have counted 7 sec. Which would make the shaft 787 ft,” guessed one viewer. Another viewer was simply amazed by the sound. “That rock sounded like it turned it jets on and fell faster, lol,” they wrote.

While many people marvelled at the depth, many others took note of how dangerous and wide the hole was to be only protected by hand-railing. “It’s so scary knowing that thing is always open like that,” said one viewer.”I feel like this should be covered,” wrote another.
