Mail Carrier Notices Man Hasn’t Collected His Mail, Ends Up Saving His Life

A mail carrier in Hope Hull, Alabama unexpectedly became a hero when she followed her instincts to check in on one of her regular customers after she noticed he had not collected his mail for several days.

Cissy Cartwright has been delivering mail in Hope Hull for more than 20 years. She went to check on Tommy Hope, 66, whose home sits back off the road in a secluded rural area. As soon as she got to his door she noticed Hope’s front door was open and his truck was in the front yard with the hood up.

She went to the door and called for Hope and he yelled back to her for help. She found him on the floor, dehydrated and injured and learned that he’d been there for 10 days! She called 911 and waited with him until an ambulance arrived.

“I was in shock but I was just so relieved that when I did yell for him, he answered me. I’m just glad I found him when I did,” Cartwright told WCN.

Hope had been unable to get help for after a terrible fall. He found different ways to stay alive until Cartwright found him. Hope says Cartwright saved his life

“He calls me his hero and if that’s what he wants to say, I’m good with it,” she says. “But I don’t feel like a hero. I was just at the right place at the right time.”
