600 Music Teachers Improvise Harmonies While Singing Amazing Grace

Six hundred music educators attending a conference got an impromptu harmony lesson of their own when one of the speakers asked them to sing Amazing Grace. Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser had the music teachers stand and sing “Amazing Grace” but without the lyrics. Instead, he instructed them to just sing on “Ah”. From there, a completely unrehearsed musical performance unfolds, and how sweet it is! Take a listen for yourself.

Dr. Lautzenheiser was the keynote speaker at the Manitoba Music Educators “Tempo Conference” in 2019 where this improvised harmony took place. When he says, “how bout some harmony?” the teachers switch effortlessly into harmonious sound.

People who have watched the video have commented at the chills they’ve gotten from listening to the performance. Ruth Reimer, the teacher who recorded the video, was delighted at her video’s response. “Thank-you so much everyone for the positive feedback,” she wrote. “Nothing but likes here! I’m so proud to be a Performing Arts Teacher and make beautiful music with all my colleagues.”
