Hospital Ensures Elderly Couple Who Have Been Apart Once In 70 Years Get Together During Stay

An elderly Georgia couple have been married for almost 70 years and during that time have only been apart once. So when they were separated during a recent hospital stay, a health care worker went above and beyond to make sure they could see each other.

Tom Clark, 96, and his wife Arnisteen, 92, were last separated when Tom was stationed in Korea. However, during a recent stay at the Piedmont Fayette Hospital, the two were forced to separate. The Clarks could not share a room because the oncology care hospital floor on which they were staying only allows for one patient per room due to state regulations.

When staff realized this was difficult for the couple, they made a special arrangement for the two to see each other. Tom was much relieved to get to visit his wife in her room. “I just can’t be away from her,” he said. “She’s the finest woman in the world.”

Piedmont Fayette Hospital shared the touching moment on Facebook.

The post reads:

“Fayetteville residents Tom and Arnisteen Clark have been married for 68 years. The only time they have been apart during their marriage is when Tom, an Army veteran, was stationed in Korea.

“This made their stay in different rooms in the hospital very difficult for them, so Tina Mann, Manager, Orthopedics Medical-Surgical 4, with help from the clinical staff, went above and beyond to make a special arrangement for Tom, 96, to visit his wife, in her room.

“Overcome with joy, he wept as he described the deep love he has for Arnisteen, 92. “I just can’t be away from her, she’s the finest woman in the world.” Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery for the Clarks and many more happy years together.”

It’s touching to see the hospital is making sure the Clarks not only get health care but care for their hearts and souls too. Share this sweet story with your family and friends!
