Heroic Army Veteran Shot As He Calmly Faced Oregon Community College Shooter

Less than a day after the tragic shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon, the story of Chris Mintz, an Army veteran, a father and a student at Umqua who jumped into action to help save his classmates’ lives.

According to witnesses, when Mintz heard the shooter firing in the classroom next door, Mintz told his classmates to stay calm and met the shooter at the door blocking him from entering. Mintz tried to talk the shooter down but was shot three times.

“(He) hit the floor, looks up at gunman, and says, ‘It’s my son’s birthday today.’ (And he) gets shot two more times,” Wanda Mintz, Chris’ aunt told KCPQ. At some point, Mintz was shot twice more. Thankfully, Mintz is recovering despite being shot multiple times!

Both of Mintz’ legs were broken as result of the shooting and he will need to go through a lot of physical therapy, but he is going to recover.
