Mother Nickie O’Kelly was happy she found a stuffed pink trunk for her 2-year-old daughter while at a Monster Jam truck rally this past January. But she was soon dismayed and disgusted when her oldest daughter spotted the double heart symbol on the toy truck’s roof and told her it was eerily similar to the symbol she had seen on an episode of “Law & Order: SVU”. The particular episode in question featured a girl who was sent the symbol by a pedophile. Apparently, when a pedophile sees a child with the heart symbol, it’s code for “this child is ready to be traded for sex.”
O’Kelly was shocked and began to search for answers. “I’m absolutely sick. I bought this for my 2-year-old little girl,” she told WFLA News. “This toy was made for little girls. I wanted answers.”
According to Snopes.com, while police were surprised to learn a symbol similar to one used by pedophiles on a children’s item, they pointed out that the symbol itself doesn’t necessarily pose a danger to children who own the toys. It was, however, possible that pedophiles might find the use of the symbol on toys to be stimulating or amusing.
Meanwhile, when the manufacturer of the toy learned the upsetting news they were completely shocked, unaware of “an underlying meaning of these symbols and the deplorable behavior”. They acted immediately and pulled the toys from shelves and urged anyone who bought the toy at the Monster Rally to contact them.
