Canine Companion Of Shot Stray Dog Won’t Leave Her Side

A man got home from work to find an injured dog in his yard not moving and another dog watching her from the bushes. Not knowing what was wrong with the dog he called Stray Rescue of St. Louis for help.

When Donna approached the black dog, she could tell that the dog was badly hurt.

The second dog was very concerned, watching Donna closely every time she approached her friend.

The rescuers opted to lift Peony in a blanket because they did not know what injuries she had. Her friend, Garden, reluctantly came but once she was in the van with her friend she settled down.

The vet immediately knew the dogs had been shot by pellets, with Peony in much worse shape because of it.

But thankfully, they are both on the mend!

In just a few weeks, Peony’s leg is healing and she can now walk again, but she tires easily.

“Peony’s leg is healing so she is walking now,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis writes on Facebook. “Such a strong, amazing girl. She gets tired quickly, but she’ll keep getting stronger. Her dream is to be someone’s lap dog, she is the cuddliest of all cuddle bugs. If she’s not getting her belly rubbed, she’ll come over and drop in your lap and stare into your eyes with hers until you do.”

Peony also is loving being carried around like a baby. “Even though Peony is walking fine on her own now, she still asks Grant to carry her,” the rescue says. “And he happily obliges. She has us all wrapped around her little paw, we’ll give her anything she wants. Look at that little smile.”

And Garden is also thriving. “Garden loves playing and wrestling with other dogs, she’s making so many friends,” Stray Rescue writes. “She bounds around like a puppy and could play-play-play all day!”

The rescue aims to keep the pair together as they “understand the power of an unbreakable bond.”
