Father And Son Save 40 Dogs Left Behind In Texas Floods

A father and son have been saving dogs from the rising flood waters in Brazoria County, Texas, after many of the pets were left behind. Heavy rains have caused widespread flooding in the area for the past few days and the county has issued more mandatory evacuations on Tuesday June 9, 2016.

Imgur user DustyHam shared several photos of his father and brother’s rescue efforts that show the pair navigating a boat down streets and wading into the water to get the dogs back to the boat.

Emergency managers estimate approximately 3,000 houses have water in them, and almost 50 roads have been closed due to flooding.

DustyHam’s family have gone out several times to save the animals as the flood waters rise.

In one photo, a dog is seen stranded in the back of a pick up truck.

In another, a dog is struck on a front porch.

Two small white dogs were also saved from what looks like a flooded garage.

DustyHam says that his dad and brother made several trips and have saved about 40 dogs. The dogs all went to a temporary animal shelter set up by the local humane society.

Many people are applauding the men’s efforts saying, “Never leave a pup behind.”

The SPCA of Brazoria County is telling residents looking for lost pets to check the Brazoria County Fairgrounds in Angleton and at the SPCA of Brazoria County in person.

They expect pets to continue to arrive from flood zones over the next several weeks and indicated there are other makeshift shelters in the area that are taking in lost pets.

Share what these wonderful men are doing with your family and friends!
