Beachgoers Save Young Great White Shark Stranded On The Beach

Despite the Great White Shark’s reputation as the most terrifying animal in the sea, the fish is actually a vulnerable species. So when a juvenile male shark beached itself while trying to catch seagulls off Chatham, Massachusetts on July 13, 2015, beachgoers helped it rather than run away.

Thanks to their efforts, and the efforts of harbor master, the marooned shark was saved.

Video footage of the rescue was caught by one of the bystanders.

Once the 7 foot shark was back in the water, Dr. Greg Skomal of the Division of Marine Fisheries, Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, and Chatham Harbormaster Stuart Smith revived it and eventually let it go approximately 1 mile offshore. In the video footage below, the shark swims off into the ocean, to hunt another day.
