One Of TV’s Funniest Sketches Aired Over 40 Years Ago On The Carol Burnett Show

Back in 1976, The Carol Burnett Show aired a sketch comedy segment that his now considered a comedic masterpiece. The skit is still funny today. “Went With The Wind” is a spoof of the film Gone With The Wind.

Burnett plays Scarlett O’Hara, Harvey Korman is Rhett Butler, Tim Conway is Ashley Wilkes, and Vicki Lawrence plays the role of the Sissy in the hilarious parody.

The sketch is perhaps best remembered for the scene of Scarlett’s curtain-rod dress that Burnett wears for the very end. When Burnett made her entrance and walks down the stairs the live audience laughed so long that they had to edit it out due to time constraints (it’s included in the video below).
