In foster care for most of his life, 16-year-old Anthony Berry did not want to be adopted. That is, until he met his English teacher, Bennie Berry.
So the teen decided to ask her one day in class. At first Bennie thought he was joking, until he actually explained the situation to her. She told Anthony to finish his assignment and then he could show her the adoption website.
Things moved quickly from there, and a year after asking to be adopted, Anthony officially became Bennie’s son and the two could not be happier. Anthony is thrilled he has a mom.
Berry is equally thrilled, telling 12 News Now, “I have a son. I’m more than elated. I have a son for the rest of my life.”
Anthony says he wants other kids like him to realize it’s never too late to find a forever family. He says, “There’s always someone who will love you, give it a chance.”
