Dog Caring For Fellow Stray Reunited With His Family After Being Lost For Nearly 7 Years

When Corky went missing the Montez family was devastated. He disappeared from their yard, but despite months of searching, they couldn’t find him.

Flash forward nearly 7 years and a tiny terrier mix was brought in off the streets to the Humane Society of North Texas  (HSNT) with a one-eyed stray companion. The two dogs were very bonded. But when the animal shelter scanned Corky, they found a microchip and realized he had been adopted from the HSNT back in 2009.

The family was shocked but rushed over to the shelter to reunite with their long lost dog. And when they saw Corky with “Captain”, his one-eyed friend? Well, they knew they couldn’t leave their dog’s best friend behind.

“This past Saturday, two stray dogs named Corky and Captain were brought to HSNT by a Good Samaritan,” wrote North Texas Humane Society. “Our receiving staff scanned both pups for a microchip and found that Corky had been adopted from HSNT back in 2009. The owners were called and turns out Corky had been missing for 6 years!

The owners came in to reclaim Corky, only to find he was pair-bonded with his best friend Captain. Not only did they take home Corky but they adopted Captain, his one eyed buddy.”

“Half the day they nap and half the day they play, but whatever they’re doing, it’s always together,” Jimmy Montez told ABC News. “It’s actually pretty adorable. It looks like Corky really took care of Captain when they were out in the streets. He always lets Captain eat first, and he’ll even stand guard to make sure none of our other dogs bother him.”

Corky and Captain join the Montez’ family’s two dogs and 4 children. They say it’s a full house, but that they “wouldn’t have it any other way”.

What a beautiful story! Share it with your friends as a reminder to always microchip your dogs!
