Centuries-Old Church Lovingly Converted Into Family Home

I’ve seen some spectacular home conversions with couples changing a school bus into a home or converting a garage into an apartment, but I’ve never seen a conversion quite like this one.

St Nicholas Church was built in 1792 on the site of an earlier church dating from around the 1100s. It remained a church until the 1980s when it was deconsecrated after which it was abandoned and empty for 20 years until a few years ago when it was lovingly converted into a home!

The three-floor home retains many of the former church’s features but has all of the amenities for modern living. It’s a beautiful conversion, that incorporates many of the elements of the old church and re-purposed the building materials such as the pine pews.

The property in Kyloe, Northumberland sits on 1 acre of land surrounded by beautiful gardens and views to the sea.

The spectacular living room has high, open timbered ceilings, stained glass windows. The floor is made with polished pitch pine, with underfloor heating and six Victorian cast iron radiators to heat the interior in the winter.

The room has a beautiful double staircase and balcony leading to a library.

The large vestry kitchen has views to the sea and built from pitch-pine reclaimed from old church pews and roof timbers.

It also has underfloor heating and a log burning stove.

Following the passageway to the nave will take you to the dining room and master bedroom.

The dining room has lots of space for guests. Look at that high ceiling and beautiful stained-glass windows!

The Grand Bedroom is furnished with a hand built super-king size bed replacing the altar, backed by eight beautiful stained glass panels.

The stair case leads to the upper floors with more bedrooms.

There’s also another bedroom in the bell tower with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.

The Main Bathroom is one of the most unusual and inviting rooms. Spread over 3 floors and lit through the 12′ stained-glass window, it provides a very special place to relax in the deep, free standing french bath.

It also has heated towel rails and underfloor heating for extra comfort.

The home is up for sale, and details are on their website.

They did such a great job converting this space into a modern home!
