After Escaping A Kill Pen, Donkey Welcomes Fluffy White Bundle Of Joy
When Miss Lucy arrived at Skydog Sanctuary, she was carrying more than the weight of her difficult past.
The pregnant donkey had been rescued from a kill pen along with several other donkeys. Her hooves were in terrible condition, so damaged that she was suffering from painful abscesses. Yet despite everything she had endured, Lucy kept going. With the help of her rescuers, she slowly began regaining her health—not just for herself, but for the baby she was carrying.
No one knew exactly how far along Lucy was in her pregnancy. As the months passed, her growing belly became impossible to miss, and her caregivers eagerly awaited the arrival of her foal.
Then, four months after her rescue, the big day finally arrived.
Lucy gave birth to a fluffy white baby donkey who was lovingly named Marcie Marshmallow.
From the very beginning, little Marcie seemed determined to make up for all the joy her mother had missed. Just one day after being born, she was already prancing around her pen, running, exploring, and soaking up all the attention she could get. Lucy watched over her devotedly, clearly smitten with her precious baby.
When the pair were introduced to a larger pen with other donkeys, Marcie’s charm quickly won everyone over. According to Skydog Sanctuary, the tiny foal “quickly became the undisputed princess of the donkey pen, if not the whole sanctuary.”
Today, Miss Lucy’s life looks nothing like it did before her rescue. The fear and uncertainty of the kill pen have been replaced by safety, peace, and the companionship of her beloved daughter. And as Marcie Marshmallow races around the sanctuary, it’s a beautiful reminder that sometimes the sweetest new beginnings arrive when they’re least expected.
