Bachelor Party Out Canoeing Spot A Dog’s Head Sticking Out Of The Mud
A bachelor party canoeing on the Minnesota River got an unplanned surprise when they spotted a dog’s head poking out from the muddy shoreline.
“We had been on the river for … a full day and night, and hadn’t seen anyone else,” Mitch White, the bachelor of the party, wrote in a Facebook post. “ My [n]ephew … heard a dog barking behind him and turned the canoe around to see what was going on …”

The head belonged to a senior St. Bernard who’d been wandering and got sucked into the mud. “When we got to shore, [we saw he] was buried up to his neck in the thickest of mud,” White wrote.
They began trying to dig the dog out with their oars and the shovels they had with them. They called 911 when they couldn’t free the dog.
Taylor Thompson, who was also in the group of canoers that found this poor pup, said: “When we came across him he was so deep in mud that only his head was exposed. …We used our paddles to dig and pry as much mud as we could until Carver Fire Department showed up.”
While waiting, they gave him water. “We gave him water, [and] he drank about a half a gallon before stopping,” White wrote in the post. “[We] gave him some of our lunch meat and summer sausage we had been lunching on just before we found him.”

When Carver Fire Department arrived at the scene, the men had been digging for about 20 minutes.
Throughout the rescue, the St. Bernard was glad to be helped. The friendly pup was put in the back of a truck bed and soon after reunited with his owner. The dog, whose name is Ed, had roamed off the family’s property and had been missing for a day before he was found.
“I was happy to see them reunited,” Cox said afterwards. “[Ed] looked a lot better the next day, after having had a bath.”
