Stray Dog Hit By A Car Saved By 56 Cab Drivers He Befriended
A stray dog who stole the hearts of taxi drivers in central China is now on the road to recovery thanks to the people who refused to give up on him.
At the high-speed rail station in Xuancheng, Anhui province, a friendly yellow stray became a beloved companion to local cabbies, who affectionately named him “Stationmaster Huang.” Drivers fed him, played with him during breaks, and looked forward to his wagging-tail greetings after long shifts. Some even went out of their way just to spend more time with him, and the group eventually pooled money to have him sterilized, South China Morning Post reported.
But in mid-April, tragedy struck when Stationmaster Huang was hit by a car and left badly injured.
The dog suffered multiple fractures and urgently needed surgery. Without hesitation, the taxi drivers stopped working, called rescuers, stayed by his side, and began raising money for his care. Within days, 56 cabbies had contributed nearly 5,000 yuan, while the driver involved in the accident added 2,000 yuan. Moved by their compassion, the pet hospital reduced the cost of surgery and waived labor fees.

On April 20, Stationmaster Huang successfully underwent surgery, and the cabbies took turns visiting him, petting and comforting him as he recovered. Just a week later, he was able to stand, and veterinarians expect him to make a full recovery within a month.

Discussions now are underway on how to keep Huang protected and looked after, with adoption being a preferred option, although the cabbies want to ensure that the adopter to be someone they know well and who will sign an agreement ensuring Huang’s well-being.
No matter where Huang ends up, he can count on a large family to look out for him.
