German Shepherd Abandoned At Walmart With A Big Box Of His Favorite Toys
A German Shepherd named Maverick was abandoned outside a Walmart with nothing but a large box of his favorite toys beside him. The dog simply sat there, confused and afraid of what was going on.

Some people left out food for him and tried to approach him but all he wanted to do was wait for his family to come back for him. They noted that he “was calm, sweet and docile when he was on the street.”
Three days later, animal control came and picked him up.
Soon after arriving at Hesperia Animal Shelter, Maverick found himself on the euthanasia list with only days left. Like many dogs in overcrowded shelters, the stress and fear of the environment made it difficult for anyone to truly see who he was beyond the kennel walls.
But one thing stood out to the people trying to save him: someone had taken the time to gather all of his toys before leaving him behind. To them, it was a sign that Maverick had once been loved and was more than the frightened dog sitting in a shelter run. Among them was his biggest advocate, Leanna with Bark N’ Walk.
She posted a plea online, asking for a foster home so a rescue could step in before it was too late. Support quickly grew, and people rallied together to help give Maverick another chance.
In the end, Iron Paw Rescue agreed to pull him from the shelter, transport was donated and arranged, and Maverick officially left behind the place where his future had looked so uncertain.

It didn’t take long for Maverick to find a home in Washington. Leanna helped find wonderful transporters who donated their time to drive him from California to his new home. He now is living with his new family, where he will begin a new life thanks to the many people who worked together to save him.
