German Shepherd Saves His Mom From Rabid Bobcat While Out For Walk
A German Shepherd named Moses is being called a hero after protecting his owner during a terrifying bobcat attack in Arizona. Moses and his human were out for a morning walk when a wild animal suddenly charged towards them.
“This cat came at me and jumped me,” the woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told 12 News. “I thought it was a coyote because we don’t have bobcats around here.”
She tried to push the animal away, but the cat attacked again, scratching her arm and knocking her to the ground. Fearing for Moses’ safety, she desperately urged him to run.
“I was afraid. I kept saying, ‘Go, go, go’ to Moses,” she said. “I wanted him to get away.”
But Moses refused to leave her. Instead, the German Shepherd stood his ground and intervened in the attack near their driveway, ultimately killing the bobcat and allowing her to escape to safety.
When authorities later tested the animal, it was confirmed to have rabies. Officials believe the same bobcat may have been responsible for several unusual attacks reported in the area over the course of the weekend.
Fortunately, Moses was current on his rabies vaccine. Although he now has to quarantine at home for several weeks as a precaution, he is expected to recover fully. His mom, who is also receiving treatment, said the experience was painful but could have been far worse.
“He’s an amazing dog and he’s also very sweet,” she said. “He’s the hero of the day.”
