Woman’s Quick Thinking Saves Dog Who Fell From Apartment Window

A woman is being hailed as a hero by dog lovers after she saved a small dog from falling to her death from an apartment window.

Hearing a ruckus outside her apartment in Guarulhos, Brazil, Yasmin Saraiva looked out her window to see what was happening. She spotted a small crowd gathered on the street, staring directly above her apartment. When she looked up, she saw her upstairs neighbor’s dog, Alicinha, out on the ledge. The dog had somehow crawled through the protective netting covering the open window and was trapped between the netting and the shutter. In her panic, she had begun to climb up the shutter.

Saraiva immediately reacted, searching her apartment for something to catch the dog in. She found a cardboard box and held it out, hoping to break Alicinha’s fall. A person in the apartment across the street filmed the heart-stopping moment Alicinha lost her grip:

Miraculously, Yasmin caught Alicinha, and the box held.

“She became my friend as if nothing had happened,” Saraiva told a local news outlet about how the dog reacted to her rescue. “It almost gave me a heart attack. But she just sat there in my living room and stared at the TV.”

Saraiva shared that Alicinha is doing well and has since been reunited with her owner.
