This Is What A Tree Sounds Like When Played On A Unique Record Player

Artist and musician Artist Bartholomaus Traubeck creates music by playing trees. It sounds peculiar, but it’s actually pretty amazing. What he’s done is created a record player that translates the different colors and textures of tree rings into corresponding musical notes through a computer program.

The record player uses a high-tech camera sensor, rather than a needle, to gather information about the piece of wood and then turns that information it into sound. How cool is that? And because every tree has unique grains and rings, the music produced is always one-of-a-kind.

In the video below, Traubeck’s unique instrument plays a piece of Ash wood and the resulting piano track is fascinating and more melodic than I would have thought.

Share this incredibly original music with your family and friends!
