Elora befriended a tiny octopus when she was out diving in Belize when he swam up to her she extended her hand and he approached her. She began to visit Egbert, as she named him, every day and the two became friends.
During one visit she helped him move a log. On other days she brought him things of hers to explore after she realized how curious he was of her stuff. Soon the two began to look out for each other!
Viewers are so moved to learn about Elora and Egbert’s curious friendship. “What a lovely bond to have with a wild animal on his terms. He does seem to want to be your best friend. How lovely,” wrote one viewer.
“This is so touching,” commented another. “To have any animal trust you is special but for a wild animal to choose to befriend you is a gift. This is beautiful and I wish Egbert a long and wonderful life with his friend.”
Another person concluded, “Again, as humans, we seriously underestimate animals’ intelligence. That’s one smart octopus.”
