‘Sweet Dog’ Found In Cage And Dumped In Swamp Water Rescued Just in Time
A dog is lucky to be alive after neighbors in Suffolk, Virginia spotted the animal stuck in a cage in a swampy water and left to die.
The men were walking along Pioneer Road when they spotted the dog inside the metal cage with water up to his neck and surrounded by green algae.
Police were immediately called to the scene and worked together with firefighters to help lift the 50 to 60 pound dog out of the water. A leash was found inside the kennel.

One of the Good Samaritans said that the Pit Bull was friendly. Thankfully, the dog is also in good health but he wouldn’t have been much longer had he not been rescued. Carmen Brown, a volunteer with the Suffolk Humane Society noted that the dog could have easily gotten very sick if he had drunk any of the water and would likely have died within a few days. She said the situation was “heartbreaking.”
“Who could do that,” Brown told WAVY News. “What kind of person would do that to an animal?” The dog is now safe and being looked after at the shelter. Brown said that the dog “had the sweetest little face,” and she doesn’t think he will have a problem getting adopted as he’s a “sweet dog.”
Police are investigating the case and are asking if anyone has information about the dog that they contact Animal Control or the local Crime Line. In the meantime, the dog is currently being cared for at Suffolk animal control.
