Springer Spaniel Helps Mom Push Car Out Of Floodwater

A Springer Spaniel who helped get a car and its owners out of a watery jam is being hailed as “a very good dog” after a video shows him pushing the vehicle through the high waters alongside his mom.

In early August, heavy rains caused flash flooding on the streets of Glasgow in Scotland stranding many cars on the street.

Two women in a vehicle ended up stuck in the water and were trying to get out when Lori Gillies noticed. She was walking by with her Spaniel, Puck, when she saw them having trouble.

“Puck and I were out on our usual walk and there was a car that was stuck in the water. There were two women inside and I went down to give them a hand,” Gillies shared with the Daily Record.

Gillies waded into the hip-high water to the rear of the car with Puck doggie-paddling around her.

The car slowly inched forward. At one point Gillies took out her cell phone to take some photos of Puck in the water. That’s when Puck came to her side and decided to help her push the vehicle.

Puck got up onto his hind legs and pushes alongside his mom.

“We’ve never really had flooding as bad as that there. Puck was just swimming next to me and I took my phone out to video him and then he started pushing it,” Gillies told the Daily Record. “Once the handbrake was off it was just a quick push or two and then it started rolling.”

Davie Keel was watching from an apartment above the street and shot a video of Gillies and Puck in action, which Gillies later shared on Facebook.

Keel had been in a similar situation the day before helping push cars out of the water and his own car is a “write off,” according to Gillies.

Gillies said she was just doing a good deed to help the car and its owners get to drier land. She added, “Puck really is the best dog in the whole wide world.”

After finishing their good deed Puck got an extra special reward – an extra big dinner with gravy, biscuits and meat.
