Dog Who Lost Nose To Dog Fighting Gets Second Chance

It’s almost unimaginable the cruelty a dog named Sienna Rose has endured. When she first arrived at a New York City shelter she was nicknamed “Seal” because of her appearance. The poor dog’s nose was missing and she was badly scarred, most likely because she was a victim of dog fighting.

Second Chance Rescue NYC rushed to save her and were determined to give her the medical attention she so desperately needed.

They shared the news of her arrival  on Facebook on January 9, 2015:

“Very tough to put together the right words here. We received a plea for this poor girl tonight and of course, immediately said yes! The pain and suffering she endured to look like this is unimaginable! It’s a pretty good bet that she was used as a bait or fighting dog as she’s covered in scars and something took part of her face off!!”

Within a day she went to the veterinarian who determined she was blind in one eye and partially blind in the other. Obviously, her mouth was a mess and what teeth she had remaining were rotten. Happily, however, she could breath and eat on her own!

Within a week, she went to a special surgeon for reconstructive surgery on her face. Second Chance Rescue wrote, “Of course, we want to give this sweet 6 year old love the best rest of her life possible!”

An amazing surgeon at Grossbard Veterinary Referral services worked on her and this is how Sienna Rose looks now!

Throughout her entire ordeal, Sienna Rose has been so grateful for the love and attention she  has been receiving. “Despite the horror of her past, she is a sweet & gentle dog who loves people!” the rescue wrote. “Her tail is always wagging.”

Sienna’s story shows the terrible impact the cruel blood sport of dog fighting has on dogs and Second Chance Rescue NYC hopes Sienna Rose’s story makes a difference and wrote, “Let’s hope this has some impact. These stories of abuse and neglect can, hopefully, benefit other dogs and prevent others from suffering.”

Update: Oct 7, 2016

Over a year has passed since Sienna Rose’s rescue and she has made huge progress in both body and spirit. But this sweet girl is still available for adoption! The “love bug” has attended adoption events in the past year.

Her rescuers say that she is the “one of the sweetest girls you will ever meet” and loves children. “Some of her favorite hobbies are laying around and cuddling, running and playing fetch in the yard, and just watching TV next to her person.”

I’m hoping for all the best for Sienna Rose and that she finds her special someone soon!
