Senior Ferret Left In The Woods Clings To Rescuer For Comfort
A senior ferret dumped in the woods is now warm and safe. Vermilion County Animal Shelter’s Animal Control Officer, Hanah Hueston, found the ferret huddled in the cold, hiding in the underbrush, and filmed the rescue. When Hanah extended her hand, the ferret quickly ran over to her—as if he knew she was there to help.

As soon as Hanah picked him up, he tucked himself into her arms, seeking warmth and making sure she wouldn’t leave without him. Sadly, Hanah noted that ferrets are frequently abandoned around Danville, IL. “They’re dumped constantly in our area along with other small critters,” she wrote.

The ferret wouldn’t have survived the cold, so she was relieved to have found him. Once she brought “Ziggy” back to the shelter, she settled him into a crate with warm blankets, and he quickly burrowed in and fell asleep.

Six days later, Hanah shared an update on Ziggy. Vets confirmed he was an older ferret and noted how utterly exhausted he was. After being in survival mode for who knows how long, Ziggy spent most of his time sleeping. “Poor baby was exhausted,” Hanah said. When they tried to get him to play, “he wasn’t really feeling it.”

However, Ziggy soon began warming up to attention and even enjoyed getting head scratches. He also got some social time and met another ferret at the vet. Ziggy has since found a forever home, where he will never be alone or cold again.
