Veterinary exams revealed that Nixi had heartworm, a stomach worm, and other health issues, indicating she had likely been fending for herself for months. She was also malnourished, but remarkably, her puppy was not. Despite her struggles, Nixi had taken excellent care of her pup, ensuring he stayed healthy and strong.
Nixi had chosen to be fearful while living on the streets, but Andrea could tell she wanted to trust humans. On her first night in her new home, all Nixi wanted was to be held. As she healed and grew comfortable, Nixi began to open up, even placing her paw on Andrea’s hand in a touching display of trust. Andrea believes that having a safe home has helped Nixi gain the confidence she needed to become a loving family dog.
