Mink Escapes Fur Farm And Becomes Rescuer’s Beloved Pet

Nicolas the rescued mink escaped from a fur farm in Utah and has become a beloved family member with his rescuer. His mom Megan says that “Nico” was found by a Good Samaritan who picked him up and he was brought to Megan with Mustelid Madness Rescue in Sheridan, Wyoming. The mink and ferret rescue and sanctuary helps rehabilitate and rehome mustelids whenever possible and provides sanctuary to the animals that can’t be adopted out.

Being raised on a fur farm, minks are quite domesticated, says Megan. She slowly worked on contact with Nico and he became super friendly.

The mink also loves water. Every time he wakes up he jumps straight into his swimming pool. Swimming is a deeply ingrained instinct in minks and they spend half their life in the water, according to Megan. She says they are almost like “mini otters.”

Nico also gets to go on adventures to the river. It’s pretty amazing to see how he walks on leash with Megan on their outings, just like a dog would. Megan says the adorable mink will be with her “for life.”
