Maned Wolf Makes a Nightly Stop for Snack
Tiff and Chris (@Vagabond Way) have spent over a decade traveling and working their way around the globe while sharing their adventures. One of their stops was the Sanctuary do Caraça in Brazil, where some unusual nightly visitors—maned wolves—make an appearance.
“A tradition that has gone for decades is the monks leave a nightly food offering for the maned wolves,” the couple shared. “If you are lucky, you might see one!”

“Despite their almost nightly presence, these animals are still extremely shy,” they noted. As they sit and watch a maned wolf slowly makes its way up the steps and over to the tray of food. “Sitting on the best closest, was the director. The director sits by to ensure visitors behave respectfully and talks about this elusive and hard to see animal.”
They added, “This video was taken on an early evening in October. You can still see how shy and careful the maned wolf is around people.”
The couple said they rented a car and stayed for four nights and recommend staying for as long as you can “if you enjoy hiking, nature and wildlife photography. This nature reserve is an absolutely excellent place to support with tourism.”
The maned wolf is not a wolf, fox, coyote or dog. It is the only canid of its kind of the planet. Learn more about the fascinating maned wolf by watching this video.
