Loyal Dog Leads Deputy to Injured Grandma After She Falls

A family dog is being applauded for his loyalty and smarts after he led a Florida deputy to his grandmother’s side when she fell and was injured during an evening walk.

Deputy Devon Miller of Okaloosa County went looking for the woman after the woman’s husband called police, saying she hadn’t returned from walking Eeyore, their son’s dog. He told Deputy Miller it usually only takes his wife about 15 minutes to walk Eeyore—but it had been more than an hour. Deputy Miller’s bodycam footage captured what happened next.

Miller got into her patrol vehicle and soon spotted Eeyore making his way towards her. She stepped out and asked, “Where’s your mama?” Grabbing his leash, she followed as Eeyore led her straight to the woman, who was lying on the sidewalk unable to get up.

The woman appeared dazed, and Deputy Miller called for help. The woman explained that Eyeore wouldn’t leave her side, “He wouldn’t leave, he kept coming back to me.” When the woman asked how the deputy found her, Miller explained that Eeyore had brought her right to the spot. The woman responded, “Aww. Sweetheart. What a good boy… Eyeore you are a good boy. Grandma loves you.”

The woman suffered only minor injuries and is doing well. Thanks to Eeyore’s quick thinking and devotion, his grandmother is going to be okay. His actions are a wonderful reminder that dogs truly are our best friends.

Since the bodycam video was released, Eyeore’s and Deputy Miller’s story has gone viral. In an interview, Miller described more about encountering Eyeore and what was going on that night.

She was really excited when she saw the dog and was hoping he would lead her to the missing woman like she’d seen dogs do in the movies. When he did, it was an immense relief. “Eeyore’s the main hero!” and that he deserves a steak dinner, Miller said. She also noted that it isn’t clear in the video, but Eeyore pulled her to his grandma’s side.
