Injured Stray Dog Walks Into The Right Home In the Middle of Night

A stray dog looking for help found it when she wandered into a home in Philadelphia. The Jokinen family was startled to find the dog in their living room in the middle of the night. They had no idea how she got in, but after reviewing their security camera video they saw the little dog limping on the street around 3:30am in the morning. She climbed the steps of the Jokinen family home and, finding the front door open, came inside for shelter.

Jack Jokinen explained to the Dodo that his wife woke him up after finding the mystery puppy downstairs. Further review of the surveillance video revealed that Jack had not closed the door properly earlier that night. Being a “tired dad,” Jack hand’t closed the door properly and the wind storm later that evening blew the door open. The injured, malnourished dog noticed the door was open and came inside.

But how did the front door get closed? Apparently, a man wandering by noticed the open door. He called inside the home to check if everyone was alright, but no one responded so he closed the door behind him and left.

The Jokinens immediately decided to try and help “Suzy” as she was clearly scared and hurt and in need of help. They called their local shelter, but after hearing what might await her they opted to take Suzy to the vet instead.

She had no microchip and had obviously been through an ordeal so they decided to bring her home and keep her. Although they thought Suzy was a puppy at first, it turns out she’s around 9 years old. After a few weeks of TLC, Suzy gained weight and recovered. Jack said that she became a part of their family “very quickly” and gets along with everyone, including the family’s other dog. “No matter how bad things look, a little love and attention can turn it all around for any person or animal,” the family wrote on Instagram of Suzy’s remarkable recovery.

Jack also revealed that they located the Good Samaritan who closed their door and were able to thank him in person. To think, if Jack hadn’t accidentally left the door ajar Suzy may never have been rescued!
