Farmer Catches Daring ‘Jailbreak’ After Setting Up Camera To Spy On Old Donkey
Laney Brentano lives and works on a farm. Among the animals on the farm is a senior mini donkey named Nicholas. At 27 years old, Nicholas has one or two tricks up his sleeve, as Laney discovered when she put up a camera to figure out why he kept getting free of his stall. She shared the adorable video, writing in the caption, “We finally got tired of guessing who’s been freeing the old donkey – so we set up a camera.”
Watch the cute video below:
The culprit turned out to be none other than Nicholas himself. The clever donkey uses his mouth to unlock the chain holding the gate, and off he goes. The two young donkeys next to him don’t waste any time going into his stall to check on his feed.
Laney wrote what she figures Nicholas was thinking during his “jailbreak”: “Freedom tastes better than old man grain!”
One viewer knew immediately that Nicholas was the culprit. “I immediately knew he was doing it himself,” said @pagejewitt. “We have to double-tie and lock the gate because our donkey will let herself and the horse out.”
Laney responded that “Outdoor gates are now double, triple latched.”
Another viewer, @EP, noted, “We have double locks on every gate on our farm because our donkey goes around the fields/ barn and checks every gate at least twice a day. He’s 30.”
Laney responded, “We’re waiting to see if he figures out the house door locks.”
“We have a mule that works on all the gates that enter around our house,” noted @daughterofyahuah2. “The only way to keep her out is to use ropes. We let them around the house as a treat. The other 40 acres I guess gets boring.”
Another person asked Laney why she keeps Nicholas locked up. She answered, “Nicky, our old guy, has special grain and feed to better serve his nutrients need! The two year olds need different feed than a senior!”
“I am cracking up!! He is simply awesome, I think he deserves extra treats,” commented one other person. “He thinks so too,” Laney answered.
“You don’t get old without learning a few tricks,” said @bugeater420. Laney joked, “We trusted him though.”
Clearly, “the wise old man” is a professional donkey locksmith, so it’s reassuring to hear that the gates now have extra latches.
