Emaciated Dog Saved from Being Thrown Off Bridge Now Thriving in Loving Foster Home
An emaciated dog rescued just moments before being thrown off a bridge is now blossoming in foster care and looking for her forever home.
Star, a Pit Bull, was saved in the nick of time thanks to a Good Samaritan who intervened during an attempted dumping. Emily Dunn, Star’s foster mom, was told that a man witnessed someone trying to throw the dog off a bridge and stepped in to stop it. He managed to take Star and brought her to the Anson County Animal Shelter in North Carolina.
At the time, she weighed only 26.4 pounds and tested positive for heartworm. Despite her condition, she greeted shelter staff with tail wags.
Emily, a special education teacher who has fostered over 38 dogs, met Star when she was dropped off at her door. Star was immediately friendly, but it became clear she had likely never lived in a home before. Within a few weeks, she began to settle in. While she’s still working on building confidence with new people and the outdoors, Emily uses squeaky toys—Star’s favorite—to help her feel braver outside.
Now gaining weight and thriving, Star is ready to find a permanent family.
“Fast forward to now: she’s a hilarious, cuddly, reality-TV-loving foster pup who wants nothing more than a spot next to you on the couch and a squeaky toy in her mouth,” said Hope Animal Rescue, the organization helping Star find her forever home.
Star is currently available for adoption from Hope Animal Rescue.
