Elephants Joyfully React To Didgeridoo Performance

Two Asian elephants, Irene and Alice, enjoyed a special musical performance while snacking on hay, leading to an unforgettable display of dancing and trumpeting.

Allan McKenzie, is an internationally acclaimed artist and a member of the Gamilaroi/Wiradjuri. He stopped by to play the didgeridoo, an Aboriginal Australian wind instrument, and the elephants’ reaction was incredible!

At first, they simply listened. But soon, the two elephants began to dance, touching trunks and letting out sounds their caretakers had never heard before!

The ABQ BioPark in New South Wales, Australia, shared: “Allan played the didgeridoo for elephants Alice and Irene, under the watchful eye of the elephant care team, and the unfamiliar sound was welcomed with incredible excitement! The girls stayed close to Allan and expressed their joy by touching trunks, raising their feet and tails, flapping their ears, chirping, and trumpeting, which are all greeting behaviors between elephants.”

Allan said he could feel their trumpeting and welcome in his chest. Everyone was just as amazed and delighted as the elephants!
