Police Issue A Warning That Every Dog Owner Should Remember

When I first saw this photo of a car window smashed in I thought someone had tried to break into the car, but Gwent Police told another story.

“This window was smashed through yesterday by one of our officers after we received a call that 4 dogs had been left in this car in direct sunlight,” they wrote on Facebook. “On arrival, the officer found all 4 dogs panting – the RSPCA was immediately contacted and authorization was then given to put the window through. All dogs are now safe and well, the owner has been given suitable advice.”

“Please remember, on warm days like today, when it’s 22°C/72°F outside, the temperature inside a car can reach 47°C/117°F within 60 minutes,” the police added. “Dogs pant to keep cool. In hot stuffy cars dogs can’t cool down – leaving a window open or a sun-shield on windscreens won’t keep your car cool enough.”

With the warmer weather approaching it’s an important reminder to all dog owners to be careful! Keeping that in mind, this is a video everyone with a dog should watch and share.

Dr. Ernie Ward sat in a car for 30 minutes in the sun to demonstrate just how hot it gets in a car, even with the windows cracked open. As he says in the video, there are no excuses for leaving a pet in a car in the sun or heat!

Please share this important video with all the dog owners you know!
