Dog Goes Out for Bathroom Break, Ends Up in a Dirty Jam
Bruiser, a senior Pit Bull, is a bit set in his ways. Something that recently landed him in a tight spot. Or maybe we should say a hole lot of trouble.
While his parents were away on a trip, a friend was house-sitting and caring for Bruiser. They advised her to take him out front for bathroom breaks, since the backyard was under construction for a new deck. But Bruiser wasn’t happy with the change in his routine.
“He wouldn’t go out the front door,” Nicole Michell told The Dodo. “So she hooked him up on a lead and brought him out back.”
The pet sitter valiantly did her best to keep him away from the deep dug-out holes, but at 100 pounds, Bruiser wasn’t easy to manage. He slipped—back paws first—into one of the holes and got stuck.
Unable to free him, the sitter called Nicole, who then called friends to help. But that didn’t work either. So, the problem was escalated to Elmira Animal Shelter and the Baldwin Volunteer Fire Company.

Even they struggled to get Bruiser out. But they came equipped and eventually managed to widen the hole enough and pull him out. In all, Bruiser was stuck for 90 minutes in the dirt hole.

Worried, Nicole and her boyfriend rushed home. Thankfully, when they reunited with Bruiser a few hours later, he was dirty but otherwise fine and acting like nothing happened.
The holes are now safely covered, and Bruiser can once again take care of his business—without any more “hole” misadventures.
