Many children look forward to their parents reading them their bedtime stories. It’s something that parents look forward to as well. Dad Hal Russell Taylor has three children and wanted to make sure all of them could sit together with him when it is story time. So he made them a special rocking chair, one where each of them gets a good seat!
Hal wrote on Facebook, “I did not have a lap large enough for three children [so] I had to come up with something.”

When his third daughter was born he came up with an idea. Hal came up with the idea to make a three-seated rocking chair. He calls it “The Story Time Rocking Chair”.

“I invented this chair when Rose, our youngest, insisted on being part of the reading crowd at a very young age and I did not have a lap large enough for three children so I had to come up with something.”

There are over 262 precisely cut and shaped pieces of wood that go into the rocker! Hal has been making rockers since 1992.
All three children can now sit comfortably while dad reads to them.

“I have heard it said that children change your life more than you change theirs,” Hal writes. “I believe that to be true.”
Hal’s kids will outgrow the Story Time Rocking Chair, but he continues to hand-craft the chairs for other families to enjoy. He sells them through his website. He also offers workshops for making rocking chairs.
