Crying Crows Alert Woman To Drowning Friend
When crows began loudly cawing above a woman’s home, she had no idea she was about to save a life. Valerie was at home when she heard several crows making a racket. They were “screaming” and flying over her house, so she decided to investigate. She ran around her pool, checking the edges and peering into the catchment drain. That’s when she discovered what had them so upset.
“So we looked around, and their buddy [crow] was drowning in our overflow,” Valerie (TikTokker @mahoganyskyy) wrote.
With assistance, the crow was fished out using a rake. He must have been in the water for a while because he was completely waterlogged and too exhausted to fly away.
In a follow-up video, Valerie explained that the crow needed some rehabilitation time but was eventually ready to be released. She had him safely in a pet carrier, preparing to set him free, when she noticed his family watching from nearby. They must have been keeping an eye out for him. But they needn’t have worried—because as soon as she opened the carrier, he flew away.
“See?” she said to his fellow birds, still waiting for him on the treetops and roof. “He’s right here.”
It’s amazing how the crow’s family called for help and even more incredible that their cries led to his rescue. A life saved!
Crows are birds that survive in groups and have complex social structures. They will forage together, have communal nesting sites (rookeries), and have been known to give gifts to humans. One woman even had crows bring her coins. Based on this, we’re guessing that Valerie’s kindness may be unexpectedly rewarded in the future.
