When Jesse and Tara began to foster Kaya the Pit Bull, they had no idea what they were getting themselves into.
Kaya had wandered onto someone’s farm and was then taken to an animal shelter where she came to the attention of Raincoast Dog Rescue. Jesse and Tara took Kaya home, clueless of the surprise Kaya had in store for them.
When she first arrived at their home she was very skinny. But then Jesse and Tara noticed that she was gaining weight very fast. Turns out she was pregnant!
Months later, Kaya began to give birth. Two days and 15 puppies later…one more arrived.
Tara had never seen a mama dog so tired. But 16 puppies! Kaya turned out to be an amazing mom.
At 9 weeks old the pups were all ready to go to their forever homes. After the puppies were gone Jesse and Tara realized they couldn’t part with Kaya, or one of her pups, Sefina.
