Conjoined Twins Who Are Successfully Separated Called ‘An Absolute Miracle’

Shellie Tucker and her husband Greg were excited that they would be having twins. But the good news came with concern too. The twins were conjoined, connected at the chest and abdomen. The couple were advised by a doctor to have an abortion, fearing that the conjoined twins would not survive separation.

“As he was telling me, I could literally feel the girls kicking in my belly and I knew that that wasn’t something possible,” Shellie said.

Shellie and Greg went for a second opinion at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and they were told that the twins could survive separation. With that news, Shellie decided to carry Allison and Amelia to term.

The moment the girls were born, Shellie was overcome by “the most wonderful feeling” and knew she had made the right choice. Eight months after they were born, the girls underwent a successful surgery and the two are now thriving. Shellie calls her two girls “an absolute miracle.”
