Camper Spots Starving Puppy Curled Up On Remote Logging Road

A camper driving along a remote logging road in the Oregon Coast Range caught a glimpse of a white shape in his headlights cutting through the pitch-black night. When the shape moved, he was stunned to realize it was a puppy.

The little dog (later named Santi) was curled up in the middle of the road, his ribs showing and his body so weak he could barely stand. When the camper approached, Santi didn’t move until he was offered food and water. Slowly, the starving pup found the strength to get up.

The kind stranger brought him into his car and cared for him through the night. The following day, he drove Santi through winding forest roads and hills to Greenhill Humane Society, where the puppy received emergency care.

Santi was malnourished and wounded, but within just twelve days he began to heal, gain weight, and soak up all the love and attention he could.

Santi didn’t have to wait long for his happily ever after and found a loving family with someone closely connected with the shelter.

“One of our amazing volunteers, who is part of our dog enrichment program, met Santi when he was spending time with our shelter pups one afternoon,” said Greenhill Humane Society. “And it was love at first sight! Santi has since met the rest of his family, including his wife and dog Phoebe. As you can tell from the video, they became best friends immediately!”

The family plans on sharing updates on Santi as he adjusts in his new home. The shelter wrote, “We are so grateful to have been part of Santi’s story and will continue our work of helping many more pups just like him find their forever homes too.”
