Benches Turned Into Shelters To Help Raise Awareness Of Homelessness

I love what this non-profit organization did to highlight homelessness in their city.

Working with Spring Advertising, Vancover-based RainCity Housing used five city bus benches to make a bold but simple message about homelessness. They transformed one bus bench into a homeless shelter and added high-impact messaging on several others.

One bench reads “This is a bus bench” during daylight hours. But at night, the special glow-in-the dark paint lights up to reveal the message “This is a bedroom”.

Another allows a person to lift up a flap and have temporary protection from the rain.

The socially conscious project made a strong impression on the community and raised awareness of RainCity Housing’s mission, which is to provide specialized housing and support services for the homeless in Vancouver, Canada.

It’s really interesting how they used an everyday object, like a bench, and changed it into something that made people would stop, look and think about. I think they did a great job!
