Barber Makes Extra Effort To Help Little Boy With Autism Conquer His Fear Of Haircuts

Kids and haircuts. They are not something many children enjoy. In fact, they often find the experience overwhelming. And for children with autism, it can be too much. Mason is one such child. He was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder just a few months ago and is very fearful of haircuts.

Mason’s parents brought him to barber James Williams for a haircut but the little boy did not want his hair touched. For over a month, James struggled to figure out a way to cut Mason’s hair, until this week when he finally came up with an idea.

“So over last few month I have been attempting to find different ways how to cut Mason’s hair, he wouldn’t allow me to go near one of his ears he would run away on times if he wasn’t up to it,” explains James. That’s when he gave Mason a phone and they both laid down on the floor.

While on the floor in silence and Mason allowed James to “cut away and give him his first proper haircut”.

Mission accomplished! For James he felt a wonderful sense of achievement. “I love making both parents happy by giving extra attention to Mason by building a friendship at trust with Mason and myself,” he says.

The finishing touch? At the end of the haircut, the two exchanged a “high 5” and Mason gave James a hug.
