Adopted Pup Makes ‘Smile Of A Dog Who Knows He’s Home’ After Being Overlooked At Shelter

An adopted dog’s smile has warmed the hearts of his rescuers who were rooting for him to find a home after he was overlooked for far to long. The SPCA of Wake County shared the adoption update of Petey, a dog who came from a high-intake shelter in North Carolina in early October to SPCA Wake after having been overlooked by adopters.

Petey had been the longest resident at the county shelter in North Carolina and at just one year old, the shelter wanted to give Petey a better chance at finding his family.

SPCA Wake posted his picture and crossed their fingers a family would really see him this time. And a few weeks later, a family saw his picture and fell in love with him.

They brought him home and shared some adorable photos of him snuggling with his new family and hanging out with his new furry sibling. They also shared one photo of Petey curled up on a blanket with a big, content smile on his face.

“That is the smile of a dog who knows he’s home,” the shelter wrote on Facebook.

His new family shared, “Petey is settling in perfectly in his new home. He loves sleeping in the bed, playing fetch, and sniffing around the yard. And LOVES playing with his new brother and any other doggy friend he finds. He’s the perfect addition; Petey is so loved and is opening up and showing us his beautiful personality. I am so happy to have him.” And Petey is very, very happy to have them!
